Why Calibration Kits Are Essential
Calibration kits are critical accessories for vector network analyzers, enabling the correction of systematic errors and ensuring accurate reflection and transmission measurements. The quality of the calibration standards significantly affects the measurement range and accuracy. For instance, to measure a standing wave ratio (SWR) of 1.05, a load with a return loss greater than 40 dB must be used for calibration.
Although our network analyzers are shipped from the factory with a high quality pre-calibration (Sys Cal in the KC901), this calibration applies only at its ports, and the situation will change if adapters or cables are attached externally. So we recommend that oue customers get an additional calibration kit.
Selecting the Right Calibration Kit
Choosing the appropriate calibration kit depends on several factors:
Frequency Range: Ensure the kit covers the operational frequencies of your VNA. Our Ceyear 31121 calibration kits support up to 26.5 GHz, suitable for most high-frequency applications. For low-frequency measurements we offer the Measall 951011 N calibrator, which is budget-friendly and of excellent quality for personal use.
Connector Type: Match the connector type of the calibration kit to your VNA and test cables. We usually recommend selecting a calibrator with the same connector as your DUT and connecting it to the test cable instead of the DUT to cancel out the effects of the cable.
